The Imagine Africa Lodge was recommended to us by our South Africa/Namibia tour organiser. We had not quite appreciated the distinction between the Kruger National Park and the Greater Kruger National Park where the lodge is located, but any initial doubts about the choice rapidly vanished. The type of experience of wildlife in this part of the national resource is nothing else but a complete emersion into the bush life pattern of its inhabitants, facilitated by driving through the habitation of a wide range of animals, and following them through the bush. This contrasts favourably with the highly organised and controlled driving through the Kruger proper, which is restricted to predefined routes.
The experience of Imagine Africa exceeded our anticipation. The accommodation in the luxury tent was very spacious and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and from day one, we felt like being part of Richard and Amanda’s extended family. The food was delicious. The accommodation included a drive to the bush twice a day. Just in two excursions we were able to see all the big five. Garry, our driver, was very knowledgeable and Victor, the tracker, very experienced. Although we regrettably stayed only three days, we were able to see an incredible number of beautiful birds, and all possible mammals: heard of buffalo, elephants, a pride of lions, giraffes, different types of antelopes, and even a black rhino, leopard, hypos, and a pack of wild dogs. This was made possible by the skills of our guides, and the cooperation of the drivers from different lodges. We also enjoyed hearing calls of the wild animals at night from the safety of our luxury tent, and were pleasantly surprised by two hyenas passing in front of our terrace, on the other side of the electric fence. The stay at Imagine Africa was a delightful experience in all respects.
